Published: 9/22/2009 On September 22, Congressman Geoff Davis spoke on the House floor in support of H.R. 3548, the Unemployment Compensation Extension Act. H.R. 3548 was introduced on September 10, 2009 by Congressman Jim McDermott [WA-7]. The Act would provide up to three additional months of Federal extended unemployment benefits to long-term unemployed individuals in States where the unemployment rate is 8.5 percent or higher. During his speech, Congressman Davis urged an increased focus on job creation, stating, "What Americans really want is jobs, not handouts. Even as we help those in places where jobs are the hardest to find, promoting job growth should be our number one priority."
